3 Lady Women of Africa Bowl

With these bowls Zizamele hopes to contribute to nation building and harmony across the various tribes in South Africa.  

Each of these bowls is wheel thrown from stoneware clay with skill and care. Painted with a variety of colorful glazes, the bowl's ladies sit together around the rim in a spirit of unity. The Women of Africa range depicts the strong women of Southern Africa who proudly wear their traditional headgear and tribal costumes, and whom we have captured in clay for posterity as many of these outfits are no longer seen.

“UMUNTU ngumuntu ngabantu” is a complex Nguni word that means “the belief in a universal bond of sharing that connects all humanity.”   “I am what I am because of who we all are."   In Africa, the definition of an individual is community-based and not individualist. The Ubuntu bowls with their women sitting together in a spirit of Ubuntu, represent this philosophy.
