Kente cloth is a traditional style of textile weaving from Ghana, but has come to hold symbolism all across West Africa. This tradition began with the Asante peoples, with the believe Anansi (an Akan folktale character) inspired the beautiful, complex designs. These designs can be indicative of stories, proverbs, and political statements, as each color has specific meaning. Initially, Kente was used exclusively to dress royalty but has now become more of a common print to wear.
